The ChestMate Dovetail Jig is designed for the craftsman who needs more
and expects more from a dovetail jig than the conventional jigs and fixtures
offer. The ChestMate allows any imaginable spacing between pins and tails
desired.  The ChestMate allows infinite flexibility in the width of the dovetail
as well. The pin and tail boards can far exceed the 24 inch limitation of bench
fixtures.  The crafter's own custom  story/indexing board provides creativity with
the patterns, precision fitting of the boards as well as very important back-up
for each cut. A front clamping board provides back-up as well. The
robustness of the jig and accessories will never let you down and the simplicity
and intuitiveness of the system will allow you to stow away the directions
almost immediately.

Dear Friends,

Many people have asked me what the motivating factors were behind
conceptualizing the ChestMate Dovetailing Jig. Actually, there were many,
but the most significant follow.

“Ease of use” was the primary motivating factor. Having invested heavily
in a 24 inch dovetailing bench fixture, there were many steps I found too
demanding to remember for something I wasn’t going to use everyday. I felt
it would be easier to clamp a large piece of project stock to a work bench
rather than fumbling with it trying to accurately insert and clamp it into a
fixture. Once secured, I knew all I would have to do is clamp a jig onto the
top edge of the board, set my router on it and machine away. Slightly more
challenging was making sure I had a way of accurately relocating the jig to
the next pin or tail location and clamping it in place. A  board pre-marked
and used for spacing shingles came to mind. I would use saw grooves, not
marks though. The rest was a lot of design, prototypes, filing for a patent
and to convince my friend Bob Cumings of Prazi USA to bring it to market.
Simple as that.

The ChestMate, along with an indexing board that anyone can easily
make, will allow you to cut any pattern of pins and tails across any width
board. If you decide to purchase the ChestMate, I hope you enjoy it and
recognize the simplicity and robustness of the product.  I feel that once it is
used, the directions can be put away forever.

Sincerely,

Larry Douglas
