After determining the spacing of the randomly spaced box joints
and making the indexing boards, the pins are cut and then the
material remaining between them is removed simply by expanding
the jig to straddle the unwanted material allowing you to machine it
away. ( Top and center ) The random spaced insert is mounted to
the Chestmate Dovetail Jig in the opposite direction and adjusted
in width to allow the cutting the tails of the random box joints to the
exact width. ( Left )
As elegant and strong as continuous box joints are, they don't
always have to be a series of complementary cuts. With the
Chestmate Dovetail Jig and the random box joint accessories,
craftsmen can choose to space the square or rectangular cuts
randomly or even mix them in with through dovetails. A 3/4 in. insert
and a 1/2 in. insert is included with the Chestmate Dovetail Jig.
Three quarter wide box joint with 14 degree dovetails.
