Mortises in the true sense have square corners to match the square
edges of the mating tenons. A mortise with rounded ends works fine,
especially when the mating tenon is rounded to match it as shown above.

With the  mortising and doweling accessory for the Chestmate Dovetail
Jig, it's very easy to make any length mortise up to 1/2 inch wide and as
deep as a plunge router will provide on any width stock up to 3 1/2
inches wide.

It is
not intended in any way to use the ChestMate  for  making tenons.
Please be safe with your choice of methods.

With an indexing screw moved from it's stowed position to one of two
use positions,  the Chestmate  with the doweling accessory can be used
with a shop made indexing board as a very accurate and easy to use
doweling jig. The indexing board provides the accuracy needed for dowel
spacing and the Chestmate provides extremely accurate positioning of
the holes from front to back, resulting in flush glued surfaces.
A plunge router is needed for safe and proper use of the
mortising/doweling accessory. The plunge router to the left
is shown locked in  the down position for clarification.
Sharp twist drills or spiral cutters are necessary
instead of straight cutters when doweling.
