Making wider than standard pins and tails is a simple
matter of adding additional cuts in your indexing
boards, creating overlapping machining that results
in wider pins and tails.
This is a great feature that only this dovetail jig offers.
Note:
The dovetail pins and tails are easily recognized in these two images. The slotted board behind the
project boards are the indexing boards. Simple saw cuts that you make according to your desired dovetail
spacing. They allow you to accurately index the dovetail jig. ( More about the indexing boards. )
Note the 24 inch width of the project board. Make it even larger if you like.
With a few images and short paragraphs, you know your jig can sit on as large a board as you want, your dovetail spacing can be anything you want just by cutting slots in a board that also backs your cuts up helping to eliminate splinters, you have to make a once a project adjustment for the width of your pin, and if you have material left between tails, you simply machine it away...It is simple to use because simplicity drove the invention...Thank you again.

Use the ChestMate once and put
the instructions away for good.
The ChestMate is shown fitted with the tail
cutting insert mounted to the tail board
and the indexing board.
A 14 degree dovetail bit is shown
mounted to the router.
The Chestmate is shown fitted with the pin
cutting insert* mounted to the pin board and
the second indexing board.
The project boards are held firmly in a bench
vice (trimmed from image) and the
Chestmate clamps firmly to he top of them.
A straight cutter is shown mounted to the
router.
*Both 14 degree and 7 degree dovetail pin
inserts are included with purchase.
If you decide on custom dovetail spacing wider
than a close pattern, the Chestmate is easily
mounted over the unwanted material between
dovetails and machined away. The same
straight bit remains in the router to do this.
Note:
The pin insert adjusts forward or backwards to allow you an exact fit between pins and tails. A once
per project simple adjustment that is a must for all dovetail jigs and fixtures.
